Eco friendly DIY workshop

What is it ?

to choose from our models, details of which are given below.

Did you know, for example, that you could understand the greenhouse effect by looking at how a solar oven works? Based on the observation that it is often easier to grasp complex concepts through experience, Entropie uses constructed objects as tools for popularising science, enabling people to understand concepts such as energy, bio-climatism, insulation and inertia, aerobic composting of organic waste, the bracing of a structure, etc. The content of the workshops is always adapted to the audience present, and can range from a simple introduction to a more in-depth understanding of the concepts.

Entropie prepares the kit of the object to be built in advance: purchase of supplies, cutting of the various parts, necessary tools.

The tools and step-by-step instructions provided during the workshop are adapted to the age and level of the participants, so that everyone can feel at ease and make progress. The association even has accessories to make sawing easier and safer for younger children.

Depending on the terms agreed with Entropie and the autonomy of the participants, one or more copies will be built during the workshop…

Our workshops :

Workshop fees include materials, the time it takes for us to prefabricate the object kit in the workshop, and workshop facilitation.

Solar oven

A solar oven lets you cook food using solar energy!
It consists of an insulated tank, closed by a glass pane and surrounded by reflectors… The sun’s rays strike the reflectors and are reflected back through the glass pane into the tank. This gradually heats up to a temperature of around 120°, enabling you to bake cakes or gratins, for example.

  • average duration: 4h
  • no. of objets produced: 1* (*it’s also possible to make one oven per person in 8h)
  • indicative price: 420€
  • themes: greenhouse effect, insulation, radiation…
  • techniques : reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling, insulation application.

Demonstration wind turbine

This workshop enables you to build a demonstration wind turbine, based on the Savonius model, from recycled bottles.
Once built, the wind turbine will light up a small LED when placed in an airstream.
After this workshop, participants will know how to generate electricity using wind power!

  • average duration: 2h
  • indicative price: 240€
  • no. of objects produced: 2
  • themes: fossil and renewable energy sources, physical principles of wind, production of electrical current, assembly of bearings…
  • techniques: reading plans, saw cutting, screwing, bottle cutting, bolting

Bioclimatic architecture & timber frame

Bioclimatic architecture seeks to optimize the energy required for thermal comfort. To achieve this, it employs a number of ingenious solutions that make natural use of the climatic advantages of the environment in which the building is located.
The workshop is divided into two complementary parts.
The first part uses models and experiments to explain the principles of bioclimatic architecture.
The second part, aimed more at children, takes the form of a game involving the construction of a timber-frame hut, which must then be positioned according to the principles of bioclimatic architecture.

  • average duration: 2h
  • indicative price: 220€
  • themes: insulation, inertia, thermal comfort, the sun’s path through time and seasons, properties of building materials, wall bracing…
  • techniques: reading plans, bolting

Composter

This device helps reduce the amount of waste in our garbage cans by promoting the decomposition of organic waste placed in them. After a maturing phase, the compost produced, a mixture of humus and mineral salts, can be used as fertilizer for the garden!

  • average duration: 4h
  • no. of objects produced: 1
  • indicative price: 420€
  • themes: biochemical processes of composting, compost maturation cycles, chemical compounds (nitrogen, carbon…), aerobic reaction
  • techniques: reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling

Insect hotel

The insect hotel is a refuge for pollinators. It facilitates their survival by providing each species with a suitable hiding place, safe from predators and bad weather.
While the real effectiveness of these devices in preserving insects may be controversial in the case of hotels housing many species, they are recognized for their great interest in raising awareness of biodiversity.

  • average duration: 2h30
  • no. of objects produced: 1
  • indicative price: 390€
  • themes: insect life cycle, habitat typology by species
  • techniques: reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling, installation of species-specific modules

Vertical garden

The vertical garden is a multi-level wooden planter in which you can plant various species of plants and herbs.

  • average duration: 3h
  • no. of objects produced: 2
  • indicative price: 420€
  • themes: plant growth
  • techniques: reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling

Nest box

A little palace for birds: set up high up, away from predators and facing the wind, this little shelter will be perfect for welcoming our flying friends and sheltering them during brooding or cold winter nights.

  • average duration: 3h
  • no. of objects produced: 1 par personne
  • indicative price: 420€
  • theme: ornithology
  • techniques:

reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling

Bird feeder

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to work with wood while making an object to feed birds in winter. Two feeders will be made by a group of 10 participants.

  • average duration: 2h
  • no. of objects produced: 2
  • indicative price: 390€
  • theme: ornithology
  • techniques:

reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling

Toolbox

This workshop is designed to teach the basics of DIY. You’ll learn how to read a plan, cut, drill, screw and glue. Each participant will make a toolbox to take home.

  • average duration: 4h
  • no. of objects produced: 10
  • indicative price: 420€
  • theme: DIY basics, organization, ergonomics,
  • techniques:

reading plans, saw cutting, screwing and drilling
